I Have This Disease...The need to justify my actions. I stand before you and proclaim that I have O.C.S. Yes, ladies and gents, I have the Obsessive Complusive Stitching disease. I am sure everyone has heard of it. It is right up there with every other disease. Unfortunately there is no cure except to keep stitching and finish those UFOs.However UFOs never get done, because there is a new design which has just been released and needs to be stitched. For example, the latest from Victoria Sampler, Heirloom Nativity. Cathy called and described the chart. As she is describing the chart, I have very fond memories of my mother and what Christmas meant to her. I whip up the dial up Internet - soooo slow and wait patiently for the photo on the website. I call Cathy back and order in more than my usual because I want customer satisfaction. In other words I can say those famous words, "Yes, here is the chart and accessory packs". Back to me and my disease. It is so bad that I cut the fabric, serge the edges and hang it in the back so I can start to stitch as soon as it comes in. When it arrives a couple of weeks later, I quickly sort out the threads and go into a dream like state feeling the silks and oohing over the colours. My fave is the Gloriana Bellagio. Whip the fabric on to the rollers and lets start. Send child labour out to blow up each page to ledger size. Makes it faster to do the fancy stitches. Okay forget the meals, grocery shopping and house work. Not that I ever dust. I am stitching along doing each row. The cross stitching slows me down so I leave the row of Wise Men and that camel midway. Memories flood back when I did my ceramic Nativity Set and the OCD in the mid 80’s. And that is a story about colour co-ordinating everything, especially the Wise Men with their camels. Back to the sampler. Now you need to remember that I am so excited about stitching, I neglected to read how to use the over dyed floss in the rows of cross stitching . All of a sudden you cannot see the camel, the donkey fades into the background and Joseph looks a bit funny. As I have become almost compulsive about the colours, I cut out and restitch just so it looks right and you can see the figures. For the hardanger section, I was counting every whip and took my time. Amazing the picture is now completed and on display in the store. Note that is displayed on the rods and will be framed in the new year. Now is there another picture I can do or should I look at an UFO? Decisions, decisions and even more decisions. What's NewAlso from Victoria Sampler, Cathy Jean’s Home for the Holidays done in Weeks and Gentle Art Sampler threads.
