Flying Threads

  I put it in a safe spot...

     This is my favourite phrase. {My favourite spot is on the top of her head, where her glasses usually end up.} The problem is remembering where my newest place is located. {You’ll notice that she doesn’t re-use the same place, oh no.} Of course everyone knows that I did not tell them of my latest safe place. Audrey simply states that the items are lost. So they are unable to help me out when I going looking for my hidden stash. Take for instance the model, Noah’s Ark by Mill Hill. Because this sample took so many beads, treasures and ceramic buttons, I needed to special order the embellishments in 2 shipments as I couldn’t count how many of each I needed when I ordered initially. {Can you see where this is going?} So the last half of the embellishments arrive and where is the first set? Well, it turns out that I did not package them but rather just stockpiled. {Colour me surprised.}

     However, I did manage to find a lot of items for our Christmas in July sale. There are definitely bargains to be found. Especially as I am now cleaning up the office and I have found even more treasures. {That’s right, folks, she was willingly cleaning. If this keeps up I’ll wonder if she’s been cloned or something.} Some of these go back to when I first opened the store. Enough about cleaning as my first priority is stitching.

     For 2007, I am determined to finish some old projects. Currently I am back to Mirabilia’s Mermaid of the Pearls. Be careful where you step in my house as I continually keep flipping the open containers of beads everywhere. I have spent more time on my hands and knees collecting the strewn beads than I do stitching . For relief from being on my hands and knees, I then turn to Louise Gregoire’s Spring Frolic or The Barnyard depending upon my mood of stitching people or scenery. When they are completed, they are going to be smashing. I have completed some projects and they are now framed and on display—Jean McIntosh’s Ferns and Bull Rushes and Violets, Roses & Lilies. And then I pull out John Clayton’s Calm Waters.

     As a finale to my tale of woes, I received a letter to the editor from Jack Mitchell, one of stitchers at the Hamilton Sampler seminar. I put the letter in safe spot and to this day still cannot find his letter to the editor. Sorry Jack ,but then I may find the safe place years later.

  What's New

      The Victoria Sampler has a new chart called Dragonfly Lace Sampler which Flo has stitched and is on display. There are also 4 new International Hearts which have been finished as ornaments—Hungary, Sweden, Greece and Korea. From Country Bumpkin, A—Z of Whitework, ASE #79 and Inspirations #54. In the smocking area, there are now bonnet kits and a materials sundress kit available. French Val lace in widths between 1/4” to 1/2” wide is now sold by the yard or by the inch. Plus pre-packaged piping comes in a variety of colours. And Mirabilia’s Mermaid of Atlantis is in the company of the Nora Corbett’s Pixie Couture Collection—Daisy & Lily in shades of yellows and Ivy & Fern in shades of turquoise blue and greens which have been stitched and are in a single frame above the cash. Their colours are very striking and different. I like them because they are only approximately 6” by 9” in design size. And of course John Clayton’s Elegance Series now has Olivia & Megan. In addition, he has a new series of scenery called Outlooks. The designs are various outdoor scenes and are approximately 9 1/2” square. From Stoney Creek, we have Volume 1 and 2 of Christmas Stockings. Plus an old annual afghan series of Teddy Bears has been released as a chart and includes the centre design which was sold separately.
