TeamworkDid you ever notice that as time goes by, your memory is not as sharp as it use to be. The girls, Elly, Audrey, Flo and Nancy, will tell you that I am notorious for bits and bites of paper all over the store. I call it organization, the girls have their own version. We will stick with mine as I think I am in charge. Whenever the store undergoes a change, everyone pitches in to help. The current story is that I have been looking for these tiny special boxes which Nancy needs for her class at the end of April. I even went to the extent to clean my living room of all the wool, organize the basement into a warehouse and still no boxes. Audrey with her infinite wisdom has been maintaining a safe house for the boxes while we renovated the store. Did she know that when I touch anything, it has a tendency to get lost for years? I can now heave a sigh of relief and get back to my style of organizing especially in the store. To help me as my mind tends to wander, Audrey volunteered to do a by line for this newsletter called “Gentlemen Callers”. I am beginning to wonder if she is going after syndication. What’s next? Oh yes, Elly feels we should have a sale, Flo and Nancy have some new classes. Plus we have Chris our techie who keeps us on track from a technical standpoint. That’s my team and I am so proud of them! This store is truly a reflection of our varied personalities.Audrey's MusingsOn Gentlemen Callers... Our gentlemen stitchers are from many walks of life. There’s the teacher who likes ships. A jack-of-all-trades who stitches kilts. A second tenor who doesn’t let moss grow under his feet. Another chap restores old Studebakers. When I asked if he tied flies, he replies "No, I just pull them up and down". (Am I going to have to censure this by-line? And people think stitchers are boring?)Yes, we have the supplies for tying flies. Tie them, then up and down they go, to charm and entice the fish onto the hook. ( Sounds a bit risqué to me.) Our gentleman callers are a breed unto themselves and special because they are usually, not always, accompanied by our lady callers. Each one a treasure. Latest Pearls of Wisdom... April showers bring May flowers, May flowers bring stitchers, not pilgrims. Tricks of the Trade... Runaway beads can be stopped in their roll by using a piece of masking tape sticky side up with the beads on top. Beads are easy to lift off with your needle and stitch onto the fabric. What's NewAustralian Smocking and Embroidery magazine and Inspirations are back. Plus the A-Z’s series, the newest being "Thread Painting". Heritage’s John Clayton has two new Elegance charts — Dominique and Suko in addition to his other ladies. Margaret Sherry has also added more designs to her cute kitty cat line. Mirabilia has two new designs out — Bliss Fairy as a chart and the Easter Fairy kit. Arrived at the store are these light sharp and I mean sharp scissors. They are better than the previous style of stork scissors. The latest issue of Stoney Creek magazine. Victoria Sampler has released the new latest of the Garden series — Summer. Plus the latest letter of the Alphabet series is "I" for Ice Skater. Look for the sample of "G" is for Grandmother hanging as a bellpull. This would make a nice mother’s day gift.
