Pole DancingJust want everyone to know that I am now a retired accountant and will be able to play in my sandbox every day. The phrase when one door closes and another one opens certainly applies in this case. I made the decision to retire and voila a phone call if I was interested in acquiring the remaining inventory from Joan of the Silver Thimble who had retired in mid July. Was I interested? That is like asking a kid in the candy store to pick out whatever candy they would like. I’m so excited! I’m so excited! Remember the Pointer Sisters from the 80’s. Yes, oh yes, come to mama. This may be better than chocolate. All those wonderful Appleton yarns — both crewel and tapestry in a rainbow of colours. They look so good in my living room, boxes stacked every which way to the ceiling. What do you mean they are not happy? Who else do they want to adore them? There is no room at the inn, aka THE STORE. What can I do? Somehow I need to create real estate or space for the wools. As I ponder the problem or lack of space, one of my customers who is an auditor by profession comes to the store one fine sunny Saturday morning and makes the profound comment, “Your display area in the front windows is pretty expensive real estate for showing a few pictures in the window”. And Audrey comments that when she decorates the window and goes outside to check it out, sees nothing because of the dark coating. Eureka, I found more real estate. Now I need a handyman to rip up, fix up and fast. Albert and John start November 3rd and are finished by November 16th. Watching Mike Holmes has certainly helped. Into the dark bowels of the basement, I drag out bi-fold doors. Turn them upside down, cut them in half, attach them to the wall, and with hooks from the old store, we now have a display area for Jeannette Douglas chart packs. Other doors attached together clean up those shelves which I got from Barb. Reconfigure any thing in the store and slap on wheels for rolling sandwich boards. Let’s rock and roll. There is now peg board everywhere framed with moulding to give the illusion of framed pictures. Elly meanwhile has gone on vacation. The sorting of the Kreiniks have done her in. Wait till she comes back. Surprise! Audrey and I have been working to put the store back together. Nancy has that labeler going to identify all the product numbers. And at the back door, standing up proudly is the brass pole for customers to swing in and to swing out. The look on Elly’s face will be priceless. Retirement is so much fun! Time for that open house. Details below. What's NewRolling suitcases of treasures from Royal Paris, Rico, and Margot arrived for Elly and I to view this past week. We learned a trick from Jack on how to truly appreciate the colouring of the canvas. Throw the canvas on the ground! If we couldn’t decide , the phrase was "Throw it on the ground!". We have added more than 175 new canvases to our current stock. Plus I need to buy another rolling rack from IKEA. As much as Elly and I appreciate the technique of throwing the canvas on the ground, we do have trouble with the floor. We decided to use our navy blue skirting as a floor covering to protect the canvases. So if you want to see the colours, we whip out the covering like a matador’s cape, throw the skirting onto the floor, add the canvas on top and voila , watch those colours pop. Amazing. Prices start at $9.98. Plus for our Open House, a promotion of 25% off.Mirabilia’s Limited Edition of Christmas Elf Fairy Kit. Audrey whipped it up so quickly that the beads are still dancing. Introductory price of $74.98, regular price of $84.98. Do You Ever......have those moments of utter frustration when your stitching isn’t going as fast as you’d hoped? Try having a needle for each symbol in your pattern. It will save some time instead of needing to continuously rethread your one needle for every colour change. Though we can’t do much when you run out of a length of colour... that still needs a rethreading.Contact Info
