Flying Threads

"The Girls"

As I get older and add a few pounds, the girls are becoming huge melons which manage to escape very easily from the confines of my too too small bra {which, as my friend once referred to as, ‘over the shoulder boulder holders’}. Enter my daughter with these words of wisdom. "You really should go to 'Shapings' and be properly fitted". Did I hear these words coming from my tom boy daughter? I seem to be bombarded on all sides. TLC’s Stacy and her comments about the girls. Then I read that Oprah is involved with the state of the girls according to an article about proper fitting for better control. Too bad this control cannot be extended to my love for food especially PC Chocolate Fudge Crackle {love? I think it goes beyond that}. The {fashion} gods, Stacy and Oprah, have spoken. This can only mean one thing—a trip to Shapings. Now realize that if threads, charts and fabrics are not involved, my attitude is "Lets get this done asap as this activity is not helping my stitching especially as I am still trying to finish Janlynn’s Collecting Shells" {still}. Well, there is always next summer as a goal or I can pull her out in February when the snow is flying. Hmm, that sounds like a better plan. Under the pillow case you go until February when you can come out. So, one Friday evening we dash off to Shapings in Burlington. Very elegant place done in pinks. Chris, who hates {detests} pink {in all shades and varieties of it}, appears oblivious to the décor. How interesting to what lengths women will go for that right fit, me included. Later we walk out proud and uplifted. Back to finishing an Irish Blessing.

Hard to believe that summer is almost finished. Those tomatoes are ripening faster than I can eat them. The cucumber vines are trying to escape our backyard down the fence into the driveway. They didn’t like what they saw, so now they are reclimbing the fence back into the garden. Do I have a garden that is haunted? Believe me, I did follow the package directions. I only fertilized twice as the package directions indicated. As I ponder the garden popping in those Sweet Million tomatoes, which became Sweet Billions, I need to have the class schedule finalized. (See bottom).

Speaking of classes, my darling daughter, Christina is returning to school. To fill a void in my life, I have replaced her with Audrey. Some of you may have meet Audrey during these past few months. Audrey is a miniature version of Christina. Or as Audrey would say “Vertically challenged”. I have observed that Audrey is a bit more goal oriented then my precious little wonder. So between Elly and Audrey, they will keep me and the store very organized. Just forget about the house.

I will have more time to stitch especially the latest design from Passione Ricamo "Mediterraneo". This elegant picture could only be stitched on Silk Weaver fabric. Just a few more Victoria Sampler’s Beyond Cross Stitch Ornaments to finish and then look out.

What's New

Remember the 70’s with crewel? Crewel is back! We now stock the very elegant Crewel Kits by Elsa Williams. And from the 50’s, the return of Aunt Martha’s Hot Iron Transfers. I even found one that my mother had done. We have expanded our books and charts to include a section on plastic canvas. Come to the store to find that we have rearranged the charts again into more categories. Our hardanger section is bursting with new charts focusing on table runners and tableclothes. Just arrived is New Award Winning Hardanger designs for 2005. Crescent Colors has just released some overdyed #5 and #8 pearle cottons. Victoria Sampler’s has just released Heirloom Family Sampler in a choice of muted blues or rustic reds. 2005 Mill Hill Christmas Bead Kits are available. Selected samples of Silkweaver overdyed fabric in 32 ct Belfast linen or 28 ct Lugana. Plus a new gadget called "Sparkly Counting Pins". To save your hands from fatigue, these lightweight scissors from Kai are excellent for cutting!
