Flying Threads
The Deadly Duo
Elly and I are in our glory. A golden opportunity for us to not
only clean up the store but also to increase our inventory. We now
are together Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for 3 hours each day.
Look out Internet and those charge cards are just a smokin’.
{We’re all doomed. Doomed.}
Back to the most important people, Elly and myself. {I just feel the
love.} Between us, we have organized the store even more. {They actually
have, even taking into consideration some of my suggestions!} Lovely
new DMC cabinets line the one wall. Now we know which wool colours
we don’t have. {Which actually aren’t that many now.}
However when I go down on my knees (and not to pray) for those lower-most
colours at times I need the customers to help me back up to stand
on my feet. "Elly, we need to build a long cabinet for the drawers
to sit on. Then you know our famous crates on casters will be under
the top of the cabinet holding our extra inventory," I say. Her
response is, "What do you mean by we?" Okay it’s just
me. {Everyone hide your power tools. She gets an odd gleam in her
eye when she thinks of using the circular saw... and she got a new
table saw. Maybe I should go live with my friends far, far away.}
And then to use some of our navy blue fabric which I only paid $2.00
a metre back in 1998 for curtains to hide the rolling crates. Out
comes my handy spiral book, a Dollarama special where I sketch out
the required lengths of shelf board. All I ask of Chris is to have
Home Depot cut in half a 12" X 96" piece of shelving as
I need 2 lengths of 6" X 96". Did I mention that this request
came the day before she was flying to Atlanta to help friends move?
Was I surprised when I looked in her trunk to find 2 pieces of 12"
X 48" pieces of shelving? Back to the Home Depot when she comes
back to earth. It could be a while so until then I will still be on
my knees.
I am trying to avoid redoing the front window display until I buy
a new large white plastic Open/Close sign. Besides, the little bits
of white broken plastic look like snow on the dark blue carpet. A
bright pink neon sign on a timer would be great. That way no one struggles
with the yardstick to flip the flying sign which dangles with only
one piece of string. We certainly know how to entertain Upper James.
Now if only Elly would agree to iron laundry in the front window.
She has been know to arrive for work where pieces of freshly laundered
stitching are hanging on the open top DMC drawers.

What's New
Mirabilia has been as busy as a queen bee in releasing
three new charts in the past couple of months. Just last week, her
newest fairy-style design Petal Fairy was released, and prior
to that she added Archangel and Lilly of the Woods to
her collection.
Lavender & Lace’s latest released design is Angel
of Dreams. Her gorgeous gown is in shades of ivory and cream that
are offset by the recommended Blue Spruce fabric.
The Victoria Sampler has started their newest series, which
is an alphabet-inspired set of designs that can be done as individual
pieces or as one large wall hanging (with the instructions and dimensions
for that method included).
Stoney Creek getting ready to release their newest afghan series
-- Hummingbird Trellis -- and we have the Hearthside fabric
already in stock and ready to go! It’s available for $84.98.
The patterns will become available in the Stoney Creek Magazine starting
with the February 2005 issue.

Do You Ever...
... have those moments of utter frustration when your stitching isn’t
going as fast as you’d hoped? Try having a needle for each symbol
in your pattern. It will save some time instead of needing to continuously
rethread your one needle for every colour change. Though we can’t
do much when you run out of a length of colour -- that still needs
a rethreading.

Golden Threads' Store Policies
Every successful business has a mission statement. Our’s ( Elly and myself, perhaps even Chris) mission is to stock the unusual charts at the best price. This even means using any resources available (they must be legal) to accomplish our goal.
We are more into store polices. For example:
- Laughter is to be present constantly.
- Remember that you are woman and can do anything once you are determined.
- Experiment with your stitching. To embellish or not. Change the fabric to suit you , not the suggested one. Just lay those flosses on the fabric and let them shout.
- No ticke! No laundry. Like I do laundry or dust.
- The store is constantly changing -- be it the samples on the walls or the charts in the pine boxes. Sounds like some old charts should be put into the discount bin. Also there will be new fabrics or flosses in addition to the current stock. Remember, we are on auto mail with the major suppliers.
- We do mail orders for a small handling fee and postage.
- Every New Year’s Eve, start a brand new project. Be prepared with the photocopied chart, all your required flosses, the material of your choice. I also prefer to have by my side a tall glass of white wine where there are more ice cubes than wine to help bring in the new year.
- Our gold card is timeless along with the gift certificates.
- And last which is the most important policy of Golden Threads — we accept any type of payment (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Interac (debit card), even cash!)**
** Husbands, kids or pets do not constitute payment. And that also includes Canadian Tire or Monopoly money. There is absolutely no negotiation! Mind you, I have had some women try to coerce me into accepting the NO-NOs. {Bad ladies, no stitching!}

Upcoming Events
Victoria Sampler Trunk Show
April 21 to May 9, 2005
More information will be included in the next newsletter!
What is a trunk show? It’s a group of models stitched for the designer in order to have a physical representation of the design. In some cases the models put on display are the same as those used in the photographs shown on or packaged with the design.
