Flying Threads
Celebrate! Celebrate! Dance to the music!
Remember that old song from the seventies? "Yes! I know have reason to celebrate!"
-- I think {I think, therefore I am?} Chris has returned {dun dun DUN} home
and has already demanded that I share the seating in the stitching room.
Can you believe it? Well, okay, I *did* sort of take over her bedroom...
and the living room... and the TV room... so I got a little carried away.
{Just a smidge, y’know.}
I had to ‘Clean Sweep’ the basement catch-all dungeon of stuff that’s been
building up dust over the years. That sadly included some of my future project
item holders. {Like the giant space-eating twirls that fell to the bolt-cutters
in under three hours. Bolt-cutters, ho!}
Now that life has become normal {*snorts*} I am starting to get my wishlist
of projects completed. Robin Redbreast, by John Stubbs, now
hangs proudly behind the counter. So I started it in the old store and finished
it before the end of last year. {Only a four year project for a tiny picture
(9.5" by 6.75") -- I think that’s a new record for you.} But I did finish
it!
I am going gung-ho on Stoney Creek’s Nature’s Home afghan
from their 2001-2002 magazine collection. So it only took me a group of
ladies to inspire me, but I am ahead of them -- for now. Which now gives
me time to start working on Southern Magnolias by Leisure Arts,
as well as Stoney Creek’s Noah’s Sub, and Silver Lining’s
Peace Rose.
I am desperately trying to catch up to Chris who left me in the dust by
having only the backstitching to do on Valerie Pfeiffer’s The
Blues while I’m still puttering along on cross-stitching another of
her "Trios" patterns, Sitting Pretty. Speaking of things left to
do, how about Midsummer Night’s Fairy by Mirabilia? {But she
looks pretty enough on the rollers on the wall, even if she is missing some
jam-packed-together beads at the base of her wings?} While having just finished
John Clayton’s Mountains and Lake -- only by announcing at
5pm that our framer will be coming by the store first thing the next morning,
mind you -- she did get it done by 2am. And disgustingly enough, has already
put in about 15% of the Wizard by Peter Underhill in three
days. {Neener.}
The competition is on, ladies. This year should promise a bunch of new pictures
to be hung on the wall, so don’t forget to visit the store to see the new
models!

What's New
To those that just looove doing samplers, you’ll likely be quite pleased
to find out that we discovered another Canadian designer that specializes
in, well, sampling. Her name is Jeanette Douglas and she currently has out
ten designs that depict the various regions of Canada -- some examples include
Pacific Rim, Northern Lights, Fleur de Lys, and Atlantic
Seaboard. We have two samplers completed (Rocky Mountains and
Northern Shield) with another two in the works. {Pick up those needles,
you forgot about these ones, didn’t you?}
The Victoria Sampler has the Birthday Bellpulls summarized
in three charts, with four patterns within each chart. The latest design
is Heirloom Family Sampler, which has some gorgeous antique-y colours.
As always, we have their embellishment packs for those designs that offer
them.
Leisure Arts continues to offer a wide variety of charts, the latest
releases including Lion King and Seasons of Fun with Pooh.
The most sought-after chart, Summer Outing by Lanarte, featuring
two young ladies on old-fashioned bicycles chatting away the afternoon,
is also available in the store.
New Stoney Creek designs arrive just about every month, and an new
issue of their magazine every second month. February’s issue is already
available at the front counter! This year’s annual afghan features a variety
of store fronts to make a small village. The handy thing about these designs,
is that the signs can all be personalized for that special touch. We do
have the required afghan, natural Hearthside, in stock.
For those of you that like lapstands but can’t quite find what you’re looking
for, we suggest swinging by the store to test out the two sizes we have
available. A small sized stand, which holds up to 18" rods with sidebars,
is $49.98. The large sized model is available for $74.98 and can hold up
to at least 24" with sidebars (we don’t have one handy to measure... oops?)
On a minor note, the website did get a tiny facelift last year. :)
