Flying Threads

Happy Thanksgiving

Notice that the leaves are falling and the weather is getting colder- this can only mean one thing - Creative Sewing and Needlework show will be upon us shortly{yes, yes, yes!! I can finally sleep in!!!}. BOOTH 614! Dates are October 28th to 31st in Toronto and the store will be closed Oct. 24 till Nov. 3rd. Tickets and brochures are available at the store. I just love the excitement of ordering new products {"presents" to her}. No time for cooking {what else is new?} as my fingers are typing as fast as the fax machine can send out letters to Europe and to the US. Then the {hopefully cute... oh, wait a sec... I'm not working in the store *sighs* oh, well...} uniformed men arrive bearing those wonderful boxes. My Christmas is throughout October. The new EVA Rosenstand catalogue No. 25 is here along with the new price list. It took Elly and I two days to go through our inventory and reprice DOWN!! Result- boxes of discontinued kits on the floor. "What do you think we should do, Elly?" "Mark down, Michelle, BIG, BIG mark down." "Well... okay, but how much." Elly, "No room in the store- lets move it". Michelle (very softly)- "I guess we could go 1/3 off ?". Elly - "Listen if you want more new EVA kits- 50% off and make sure that the signs are large and dark enough so people can read them. Not like the last batch you did by hand and one needed a magnifying glass to read the handwriting. Michelle -"I know, I know, not enough room in the store. And remember the new Eva catalogue is $5.00."

Finder's Keepers...

From Belgium, introducing needlepoint cushions. Until the end of October, specially priced at $99.98. Samples arriving from Europe to take to the show. My cushion is about 2/3 done. Yola, our newest find, makes beautiful cushions for the store. Collis is busy framing our latest finished samples for the show. And Elly continues to rearrange the back room to make room for our latest finds. With auto mail the latest charts are in the store as soon as the designers release them. Our stock of fabric especially Jobelan is building. With Christmas just around the corner, we have those cream and gold metallics along with white and silver for stitching. Plus we have the latest metallic colours from DMC. More Mill Hill beads and Kreinicks.

The Question Corner

What is PARKING? Sorry, NO time for explanations. Busy stitchin' for the show. Christina says to park in the back if the front lot is full. No, that was not what the question was. Please stay tuned for the next issue.

Thursday Night Is Party Time...

Everyone asks if I miss Christina with her now at university. To tell you the truth I love the fact that I can stitch and NO cooking {and I love you too}. I have the fast food places down to a fine art. Friday nights are special with Dianne doing the Licks run. Then there is Thursday night. I fly in the door in a state of constant panic {nothing new}as I just barely arrive around 5 after grabbing a quick bite to eat {she eats?!?!}. However my best night was when I asked Elly to stay a bit later so I could get her and Lou a birthday cake. We had our favourite - gooey chocolate icing with chocolate cake on the side {would you like some cake with that icing?}. The ladies had me in stitches as the cheap shots were flying left and right. Shy Karin is coming out of her shell as she blames me for her outspokenness {*laughs*}. Her and Mary Ann high five each other as Edna keeps score on the cheap shots {*groans* oh, boy...}. Anna recently joined our group and was initiated into the world of Eva. Plus she is now coming to class on Wednesday night. We still have openings for the Petit Point class on Saturday November 13. Ann, one of our {is she doing the royalty thing?} favourite people, is teaching. The stitch group has watched her as she stitches samples to see which class project will be selected. The Hummingbird Sampler will now be done on the first Wednesday of every month until May 2000. Elly continues to whip up the small samples for the show {go, Elly!} and finds it difficult to decide on which new Lanarte kit she will be able to do in time for Collis to frame or it will be the usual {big shocker there} as her and I struggle to frame a sample as we are packing up on Tuesday for the show setup on Wednesday. Life is not boring at Golden Threads. Lou offers to finish off Canadian Kiss Moose sample as a quilt. As I show off completed samples {oooo... ahhh....} , everyone pitches in on suggestions on how to frame. Thea Dueck's Crimson Fire, Crystal Waters and the peach Heart to Heart stitched by Christina (her 3, Mom 1) {HA HA!! told you I'd do them} are now on display throughout the store and Christina is now stitching Green Earth up in Guelph as she complains about how she is the only one who returns from home without any home cookin' or care packages {any day I'm expecting SOMETHING}. Really, you know I don't know how to cook. (who doesn't?}As Christmas approaches, Eva my landlady did suggest that I could practise for the next two months before the Fire Department {I'm thinking the entire fleet} is alerted that I will be cooking the Christmas turkey. Auto 7 (Gino's Pizza) on my speed dial sounds good to me {psst.. they don't do turkey!!}. Plus they can deliver while I stitch. Hope to see you at the show...Booth 614.
