Flying Threads
Just An Opening Note
Time to start another project. "What do you mean I have too many on the go? Doesn’t everybody
have 15??" As Christina will tell you, ‘She who has the most charts and UnFinished Objects (UFOs)
WINS!’ As notes are compared, filing cabinets and how many, is the topic for the contest.
*Laughs* I win, ‘cause it’s my entire house. All 1500 square feet, plus the store, for 2000...
Can anyone beat 3500 square feet? going once... going twice... and no takers. Gee, darn.
Speaking of the store, have you been in lately? Ever notice how nothing stays constant? We are
now in ‘winter mode’... Navy. If you saw us at the Creative Needlework and Sewing Festival, the
curtains and tableskirts may look awfully familiar. We had a lot of fun, and renewed friendships.
If you didn’t make it to the show, come and visit us at the store. From the show, we found Lynne
Nicoletti - truly Canadian. We also connected with Stoney Creek Magazine. And, lo and behold, We
discovered how to buy Zweigart fabric. *Heavenly music heard* Alleluia! Alleluia! Oh, my
downfall... Cashel linen. Boy, oh, boy, can I stitch now!

? The Question Corner ?
From the question bag; *reaches in* Oh, no! there’s nothing in there!! Well, now, what did I use this corner for?? Nothing, apparently. Okay, I guess I’ll have to make my own little question and answer it too. How boring.
Q: What is this thingamajiggy here for???
A: To answer any questions our absolutely beloved customers will submit. SO BRING ‘EM ON!!! *waits* *twiddles thumbs** starts humming ‘Jeopardy’ theme song* *still waiting* Please give any questions to Elly in the store. My mother’s starting give me fits. Help!

Honey... I'm Leaving You
It is my mission in life to keep everyone on track (with the exception of my daughter - she can’t control ME!) to complete those UFOs. Proof of my lack of control over Christina: she only has, at last count, 15 UFOs... this does not include ‘want to do’ projects and charts - hidden in drawers and stuffed closets. I felt we needed - I mean to say I need regular stitch nights *Christina snorts* Yeah, right. Meanwhile, at the store, poor Elly wants to work on a project but people just seem to sense when she’s about to sit down (when she can) and decide to pay a pleasant visit to her. Perhaps Jennifer’s wedding gift will be done by the next millenium - and I don’t mean 2000! Lou comes by with her gun case (don’t worry, no gun) to keep me inline. It DOES get boring on Thursday nights. (HINT: BUG MOTHER ON THURSDAY NIGHTS, PLEASE!!!) So we now have Open Stitch Nights Thursday from 6pm on; (WOOHOO! p-a-r-t-y time!) so leave those poor, overpampered men control of the remote, and c’mon over! Oh, yeah... the kids... hmmm... well, good ‘ole hubby can watch them, along with watching T.V. Let’s go out and tear up the... not
town, but store!
Hmm... what is happening here? Ooo, look at what we have here... a partially completed Teddy Bear Afghan from the Stoney Creek Collection. (and don’t even THINK of ‘borrowing it’!) We are using Anchor floss, although DMC floss may also be used. Join the group in sort-of completing those numerous UFOs. We’ll probably spend more time yakkin’ about the latest techniques, and guzzlin’ coffee (or tea) than stitching. Have I mentioned railroading? Can those fibers lie flat and look great. We can talk about embarrassing moments in parenting. Ask me about
the tonic water one in the grocery store. If there ever was a moment when I wanted that floor to open... However, Christina wasn’t so lucky, ‘cause I’m still here. (d’oh!) She did redeem herself by finding me things on the Web (just wait ‘til I go to university... heh heh heh...) Charts, charts, and still more charts from Hofmann Distributing. Unusual things such as bookmarks, weddings, graduations. Elly is just exhausted from looking at that book. So many decisions! I need your help... yes, YOU! Tell me what you want so I can bring it in. Fabric? We’ve got lots, however, I know we’re lacking. INPUT, ladies! I need input! Elly’s husband built us a beautiful stand for displaying fabric. Sadly, we don’t know what to put on it. So now tell us the colours and counts that will turn your crank. Will Cashel linen do? Or perhaps that 18
count Forget me not Aida. Will that 18 count Blue Ridge linen? Perhaps I should look at Luguana - 25 thread in Dusty Rose or Blue? Did you say 32 threads - what colour ?!

Just Can't Stop Stitchin'
I am your normal over-achieving boomer. Perhaps some would call me a fool. I’ll show you.
*Laughs* I started my own needlework shoppe. You might think this should go on the front page.
Wrong. I think it goes on the back. Who would turn over the page to keep reading on... Where was
I ? Oh yes, more exiciting things. I never know what is in the store. It’s a treasure hunt every
week. Charts... more charts... and yet more charts... John Clayton from England . Will I have
time to stitch him by the end of February? Only if I stop working and stitch all day and all
night. But his designs are sooooo soothing and serene. Or how about Ross? I can honestly say that
nature is done the best by Ross of Australia. Do him on 32 count and the designs just jump out at
you. Those colours from DMC gives a soft effect while Anchor is very definitive. Lucky for me
that Golden Threads stocks both.
I am a sucker for drawn and pulled thread work. To work with CARON threads - be it Watercolours,
Waterlilies (pure silk) or Wildflowers (just like DMC flower thread - only it’s an overdyed
thread). I cannot make a decision. Lucky for me that Thea Dueck’s latest design "Crimson Fire"
(reds) which compliments "Crystal Waters" (blues) uses both.
Though those magzines from England, World of Cross Stitch, Classic Stitches make it difficult
to make decisions. Well I decided to have a classes on two designs. One is the Spring Sampler
done with Caron Hyacinth done on Zweigart 28 Count Cashal Antique White Linen. The Lilac Sampler
gives you the opportunity to use Dusty Rose for the softer effect or Blue Lugana for the more
dramatic. The tiny bit of Hardanger will suck you in... We have Hardanger 101 on Wednesday
nights. Check the attached class schedule. Sign up now or forever hold your piece - stitchin’
that is!
Ever walk around with bit of floss stuck to you? No?? Well I do it constantly. It is difficult
between the ANCHOR and DMC floss to see which belongs to which. Again, too many projects on the
go.
Think of no snow. I am dreaming but spring will be here before you know it. What happened? Where
did all that snow go? What do I care. All I did was stitch on Carolyn’s Garden. Those flowers
are so cute -$5.00/kit that I created a sampler. Out of the 24 designs, we have 10 completed. If
you stop by the store you can see them. However, be prepared that I may be working on more of
them. Does this give any you ideas on how to beat me and win the game? Lets see who willl finish
first. Currently my favourite is the... you can guess... Elly, does this qualify for a contest??
NO! Just keep on...
Spring time calls us. Lanarte kits fill that longing for the subltle colours of spring. I kindda
like the bench kit with the spring daffodils. Or there is the little seat kit with the trailing
greenery. Check us out for the newest designs which have just been released with their newest
catalogue.
Been on the ‘Net lately? Subtle way of changing the subject and letting you tell me what is new
on the ‘Net. By the way we are on AUTOMAIL with our distributors. Although you will see the
latest designers on the ‘Net, remember that it will be three to four months before the designs
are released to the distributors. This just means that you need to keep in constant touch with
Golden Threads for the latest news.

Just One More Stitch
In the back room of the store, where we hold classes, we call it our "Touch of Europe".
Surprises abound as you discover Eva Rosenstand of Denmark . When we received the supplement to
Catalogue No. 24, and we brought in numerous new kits for you. Need that urge to needlepoint -
full kits from Vervaco of Belgium. Also there are the needlepoint cushions priced at $89.95 -
includes the painted canvas plus all the wool requirements to complete the kit.
Springtime finds me wanting to do Shadow Embroidery on fine muslin from Vervaco of Belgium.
butterflies can float across the table when stitched on a 16" square table topper. These kits
retail at $44.95. There are other designs available in runner sizes at 16" x 40" ($39.95) or the
16" square table topper ($44.95). We also have regular runners and table toppers in various
designs. In my opinion, best to stop by the store and check us out.
Oh my, decisions, decisions. Should I flip a coin? Or do I go on a treasure hunt through the
store? Well why don’t you stop by and find out.
